Abstract:This study examines how industrial relations have developed in the new, post-communist European Union member states. The review is mostly based on secondary evidence of trend from May 2004 to April 2007. In spite of strong economical growth, the new memeber states have experienced some social tensions. The main reasons are deregulation, European Monetary Union conditions and the growing competition for foreign investment. It seems that European Union has not succeeded in exporting the European Social Model to through top-down institutional means. Trade unions can not rely on EU because of its deregulation policy. Instead, pro-labour policies are rather being developed the opponent of the EU.
