| Abstract: | An empirical investigation of the impact of long-term leases on the prediction of corporate bankruptcy is developed. It is in direct response to the recent debate over the usefulness of leasing data for bankruptcy models. There is a little empirical evidence to resolve the controversy. The major conclusion of this study is that capitalization of leases did not significantly improve the classification accuracy of the bankruptcy models. Researchers need to make data adjustments for leases in constructing bankruptcy prediction models. |
