Abstract:Many companies fail to notice what is happening in their environment. Consequently, they have to react more rapidly and effectively to the growing changes that are refashioning their industry. Success depends upon the right vision, structure and direction. Four different types of businesses can be distinguished: pioneer companies; laggardly organisations; and inventive companies which generate bright ideas but fail to implement them properly. Understanding how the feedback from customers, staff, suppliers, distributors, the press, etc.. work is the key. The goal is to make the business a learning, evolving system, picking up the information it needs day by day.
