Abstract:This paper describes the revolution in petrol retailing in the United Kingdom; a revolution indicated by the major supermarket operators which has resulted in the oil companies losing 25% of their market share and 1 billion pounds in revenues. This paper looks at the causal effect of the revolution, analyzes the consequences, and makes projections as to how the retailing sectors, such as financial services, clothing and consumer services are vulnerable to attack from the supermarket operators.
