Abstract: | As to failed innovations (henceforth as: innv/s.) in organizations, it is found that the following proverb is not always true: 'You learn more from your failures than from your successes'. It is suggested that instead, failure may often lead to innovation trauma (herein as: i-trauma), an inability to commit to new innv/s. because of severe disappointment from previous innv. failures. I-trauma is discussed within the context of Sun Ray, the thin-client computing innv. coming out of Sun Labs at Sun Microsystems. Overcoming i-trauma is suggested to be a critical but underappreciated aspect of innv. management in companies depending on continuous innv. for the sake of their competitiveness. Thus, the concept has significance beyond this particular case study. |
