| Abstract: | This article discusses the unique functions of corporate headquarters in diversified firms. It also reported on a survey of the structure and staffing of more than 600 headquarters in Europe, the United States, Japan, and Chile. It is argued that factors in the areas of size of the company, corporate strategy, and governance systems are important determinants of the size, structure and performance of headquarters. |
