Abstract: | This report studies the European market for fruit and vegetables particularly in France, Italy, Germany, Spain and the United Kingdom. Current trends cover 1988-92, forecasts 1992-97. Canned and frozen vegetables are not included in the report. The growing niche market for fourth range of prepacked fruit and vegetables is analysed in all the key markets with slight exceptions. Global fruit and vegetable markets are essentially stable but suffer the unpredictability associated with climatic condition changes, the seasonality of produce and import/export fluctuations. Value sales of fresh produce are increasing whilst volumes remain constant or in some markets actually contract. 1992 witnesses an upturn in volume sales in several markets as weather conditions prevailed in producers' favour. |
