Abstract:This report concerns the markets for meat and poultry in Belgium and includes analysis of chilled prepared meats such as charcuterie products as well as fresh meat and frozen primary meats. The report studies key trends, sources of supply, market sectors, consumer profile , prices and margins, brands and manufacturers, retail distribution and outlook. The market for meat and poultry has grown by 2% in volume since 1988 to reach over 700,000 tonnes in 1992. In terms of value the market has increased by 17.4% in nominal terms, but in real terms average annual growth was only 1.7%. A decline in sales of red meat has been balanced by an increase in charcuterie and poultry. There has been a favourable trend towards poultry. Meat has been on the decline. An annual average growth in volume terms of 0.5% is forecast to 1997.
