Abstract:This report analyses the retail and horeca market for wine in France in the period 1995 to 1999. Forecasts are to the year 2004. The market is divided into five sectors: Still red wine, still white wine, still rose wine, sparkling wine, fortified wine and vermouth. This report excludes consideration of non-grape wine and wine coolers, as sales of these types of wine are negligible in France. Some of the main findings of the article are: 1) Volume sales of wine, including both horeca and retail sales, stood at 2,807 million liters in 1999, representing a rise of only 2.7% on I995. The overall market for wine was worth FFI48 billion in 1999, up by 20% on 1995. 2) The single most important retail sector in volume terms in 1999 was still red wine, with a 58.5% share.
