Abstract:This report analyses the retail and horeca market for wine in Spain in the period 1995 to 1999. Forecasts are to the year 2004. The market is divided into seven sectors: still red wine, still white wine, still rose wine, sparkling wine, fortified wine & vermouth, non-grape wine, wine coolers. Among the main findings of the article are the following: 1) Highest value growth for 1999 was recorded by the sparkling wine sector, winch was valued at Ptas73.2 billion in 1999, 13.7% up on its 1998 value. Sales of sparkling wine were spurred by the celebrations for the millennium in 1999; winch did not affect other sectors to the same extent. 2) The review period was characterized by producers improving facilities and investing in wines from lesser-known DO regions.
