| Abstract: | This report analyses the market for OTC Healthcare in Western Europe. For the purposes of the study, the market has been divided into the following six sectors: analgesics; cough, cold and allergy (hay fever) remedies; digestive remedies; medicated skin care; vitamins and dietary supplements; other OTC healthcare. Figures in tables are calculated from unrounded data and may not sum. Western Europe saw sales of OTC healthcare products decrease by 6% in US dollar terms in 2000, with growth adversely affected by the continued weakness of the euro against the dollar. However, growth was positive in the vast majority of national markets in local currency constant value terms, as rising levels of health consciousness led consumers to take greater responsibility for their general wellbeing. |
