Abstract: | This report analyses the market for OTC healthcare in Sweden. For the purposes of the study, the market was divided into the following six sectors: analgesics; cough, cold and allergy remedies; digestive remedies; medicated skin care; vitamins and dietary supplements; other OTC healthcare. The main findings are the following: The market for OTC products in Sweden differs from most other European markets in that sales, with the exception of vitamins and dietary supplements, herbal remedies and a few other products, are limited to the state-owned monopoly pharmacy Apoteket. There are two medicine classes in Sweden, prescription and non prescription, although some medicines can also be prescribed and the patient is reimbursed the the cost. Herbal medicines are considered medicinal products and are classed mainly as non-prescription. |
