Abstract:A sample of 180 members of the National Association of Purchasing Management were asked to complete a questionnaire on the consequences of not receiving delivery of products their companies had purchased. The results showed lost sales damage, production disruptions, administrative cost increases. The actions taken by buyers in face of stockouts are presented. Of every 10 buyers who faced stockout 4 switched suppliers. A series of sales and distribution management issues are raised.
