| Abstract: | This article analyzes the evolution of competitive conditions in the Italian banking industry. The data consists of balance sheets for the period 1984-1997. The banking environment in Italy has changed substantially due to regulatory reform, large-scale consolidation, and competitive pressure from other European countries. |
