Abstract:The Amsterdam stock exchange is confident that reforms will help it win back market share. Fears that the Amsterdam stock exchange might be unable to compete with London date back to the late 1980s. Then, many thought that Seaq International was taking an unacceptably large share of trading in Dutch securities. Between 1989 and 1992, Amsterdam's share of that market fell from 80% to 60%, while in Dutch bonds its share collapsed from 78% in 1985 to around 32% in 1992.
