Abstract:Visegrad banks are running out of excuses for not doing their job. At the beginning of transition they lacked the most basic commercial skills, which was reflected in reckless lending and a heap of bank collapses. Not our fault, they bleated, because industry is obsolete so there's no-one we can safely lend to. Then came an almighty credit crunch, as banks avoided risk and left industry to its own devices. That meant banks were working against industrial growth during transition.
