PERFORMANCE MANAGEMENT

Abstract:Encouraging news: performance management is becoming less bureaucratic and more closely focused on development. The authors report on the findings of a major new IPD research project. When the former IPM investigated the use of performance management back in 1991, the term was closely associated with performance-related pay (PRP). Seven years later the picture is very different. The latest research from the IPD has found that the process is now much more closely linked to employee development and that many organisations are trying to distance it from pay decisions.
