Abstract:The paper reports on the merger between National Bank of Greece and B Bank. The author of the article considers the political pressure concerning the merger negotiations and the complications of the deal. The author also pays attention to the discussion of issues regarding privatization in Greece and provides the following insets: PDMA brightens the bond picture; Atlas's strength helps pick up ABS market. He states that news of the merger between National Bank of Greece and Alpha Bank boosted the Greek stock market. But the fact that NBG will remain part state-owned underlines the centre-left government's lukewarm commitment to privatization.
