Abstract:Arguments are presented that over-concentration upon one concept in social theory can produce a distortion of understanding. This problem applies not only to the concept of decision, but to any concept used in social theory: organization, group, role, strategy and the like all are capable of misuse. Six maxims against the concept of decision are given and examined in detail. It is emphasized that the problems with regard to decision making theory raised by Mintzberg and Waters can be attended to within the framework of the "satisfying coalitional model of organizational decision making", that has evolved over the past 50 years. In conclusion, there is no need of developing a totally new framework and concepts to understand decisions.
