Abstract:In the literature, considerable attention is devoted to various aspects of bundling phenomena. However, bundling with respect to various consumer groups is seldom considered. In this paper, the form of bundling referred to as "consumer bundling", is investigated by means of a simple economic model. The model reveals that buyers and sellers are economically better served by demand bundling, but that quasi rent-distribution problems constitute a barrier to reaping the potential additional profits. As can be observed from consumer bundling in the Internet, these problems lead to the emergence of intermediaries, which take over the bundling activities and thus retain the bundling profits that would otherwise not be obtainable (original in German).
