Abstract: | In this paper, a theory of external knowledge (herein as: knwl.) integration (as: int.) is presented. It sees organizations (as: orgs.) as open systems confronted with intra-organisational (for 'organisational' as: org-al.), inter-org-al., and extra-org-al. knwl. heterogeneity. There are three levels of heterogeneity by three external knwl. int. capabilities: knwl. identification, knwl. acquisition, and knwl. utilisation. Developed are propositions of how orgs. should balance divergent and convergent external knwl. int. capabilities to achieve flexibility, efficiency, and scope. |
