Abstract:Nothing so exemplifies Japan's rise to economic superpower status as the ascension of the yen. Its industrial/ export success made it number 2 market economy, and number 1 creditor. But Japan does not pay attention to the problem which its success cause to the other economies. There is not yet any sign that Japan would give financial help to its rivals as the US did with the Marshall-plan. On the other hand, the appreciation of the yen made Japan's export earnings in yen to fall, causing slow down and unemployment.
