Abstract:A review of extant research on impulsive behaviour that introduces a new interpretation of impulse buying, as well as the results of an exploratory study to investigate the phenomenology of consumers' impulse buying episodes, identifying the subjective experiences that distinguish the onset of the buying impulse, how consumers cope with such impulsive buying urges and the types of negative consequences incurred resulting from impulse buying.
