Abstract: | Digesting too much information, as well as neglecting key bits of information, often prevents companies from capitalizing on emerging opportunities. Corporate and political leaders need information from many fields of expertise. They must have perspectives generated from outside their favorite in-house resources, and they should seek ideas that come from beyond their normal focus of activity. Information overload can be a problem, but it can also be an opportunity. The Japanese ideogram for "crisis" combines the signs for "risk" and "chance". The information overload "crisis" can be ignored by eliminating information and retreating to the "security" of data delivered to the third decimal point. |
