Abstract:While rural tourism provides farmers with extra funding to continue their agricultural (hereafter as: agr.) activity, it is not clear whether agr. activities are an necessary component of rural tourism. This article examines the relationship btw. rural tourism and agriculture using across-sectional survey of rural accommodation operators in Israel. The results show that the working farm does not have any value for visitors. However, the firms that produce both agr. goods and tourism services seem to use their production factors in producing tourism more efficiently than the non-farmers. It is also found that at regions rich in tourist attractions tourists are willing to pay higher prices.
