Abstract: | Identified is the nature of intellectual assets; it is shown how the nature and characteristics of intellectual assets fit, or do not fit, with the disciplines of accountancy and operations management. It is suggested, that the accumulation of intellectual assets in core know-how areas is an under-utilised criterion for evaluating alternative corporate strategies. The significance of intellectual property rights is poorly recognized. The accountancy profession is uneasy with the issue of intangible assets in general, and intellectual property rights in particular. |
