Abstract:The output of artificial slabs in China has developed from less than 2.5 million cubic metres in 1990 to 16.483 million cubic metres in 1997. The total output has risen to the second place in the world. The total number of artificial slab manufacturers in China has surpassed 3500 and by 2000 the total output will amount to 20 million cubic metres 63.33 percent of the total output is used in furniture manufacturing industry; only 26.26 percent is applied in the construction industry, among which 21.3 percent is used for decorative planks; only about 10% is used in traffic transportation and package. Such disallocation in application directions is influenced by consumption market. Therefore, artificial slabs should favour construction industry. Specially, the proportion of structural materials such as wall materials and roofing materials is to be increased.
