Abstract: | A tidal wave of change is sweeping across the American workplace. Resulting in part from tumultous economic conditions, the relationship between employers and employees is being redefined in a fundamental and permanent way. The consequences are as critical to the future of business as are developments in marketing, financial management, and technology. The relationship that is being changed can be understood most clearly when it is placed in a historical perspective. It was created originally by the post-World War II boom that boosted the economy of the United States into high gear. The demands of domestic consumers combined with those of foreign countries rebuilding from the devastation of war ushered in a period of unprecedented expansion. |
