Abstract:The Electricity Supply Board (ESB) is Ireland's national electricity utility. ESB is responsible for the generation, transmission and distribution of electricity in the Republic of Ireland. Established in 1927, ESB has always maintained a policy of self-sufficiency in engineering expertise, with ESB engineers being responsible for the ongoing development of the Irish electricity system from the company's foundation to the present day. In the mid 1970's, ESB's operating environment changed radically.
