Abstract:This article investigates economic inequality at the national-level and its direct and moderating effects on the likelihood of couples having equal versus unequal arrangements for managing money. Based on a cross-nationally comparative data from 15 country context, the findings give support to earlier research and theory showing that the gendered context plays a part. Also, the likelihood of having equal versus unequal money arrangements in marriage is affected by the overall level of economic inequality measured by national income inequality, public spending on social programs, or the ideological support for inequality.
