Abstract:Social preferences are examined in three distinct field environments. The field settings were: 1) Consumers of all age and education levels are allowed to participate in one-shot and multiple-shot public goods games in a well-functioning marketplace. 2) In an actual university capital campaign, data was gathered from mail solicitations sent to 2000 Central Florida recidents. 3) In a field experiment data from an uncontrolled environment, a television gameshow, which closely resembles the classic prisoner's dilemma game, was analysed. Several insights emerged, the most provocative being that age and social preferences appeared linked.
