Abstract:The study examines life style branch. Life style has established itself as an independent branch of social structure analysis, which systematically completes the classical inequality research when explaining social action and attitudes. The study is based on a written survey that was carried out in a socially heterogeneous district in Leipzig consisting of 1000 households in selected houses or streets. The analyze of the participants was based on the Schulze’s everyday life aesthetic schemes with only interviewees’ musical preferences being taken into consideration. The findings recommend a theoretical grid for interpreting the varying explanatory power of life styles in previous research. In addition it indicates the limits of the relevance of this concept. The statement that life styles or cultural preferences can only be considered a complement and not an alternative to the classical dimensions of social structure analysis is supported.
