Abstract:Accustomed to the unforeseen, convinced of the need to continually adapt to the changing situation, the Japanese have learnt to build a remarkable degree of flexibility into their production systems.Invented by Toyota in the end of 1970s and than adopted by the entire industrial sector, the just-in time system has enabled companies to reduce their stocks and increase productivity. Though the West has copied this, its results are not as good because Western firms have often neglected to restructure production systems and training of employees.
