Abstract:This article examines captive offshoring of new product development (NPD). Using a sample from Brazil and applying structural equation modeling with partial least squares, it is found that local NPD outsourcing comprises a complementary relationship, while local cooperation with clients generates a trade-off relationship with captive offshoring. These relationships are moderated by the captive offshore unit's cost position within the MNC proposes that arbitrage effects exceed the headquarter-subsidiary relationship into the sphere of MNC subsidiaries' local co-operations.
