Abstract: | The Federal Republic of Germany, one of the world's leading trading nations, appears relatively weak when it comes to international trade in services: its share of world trade in services, at least of that covered by the available statistics, is markedly lower than in goods trade. Whereas it has proved its competitiveness in goods trade by strong export growth over decades, ending most years with a trade surplus, its trade in services has grown more slowly and has been in chronic deficit, not only with regard to traditional, bur also to most modern services. |
