Abstract:This article examines the foreign trade zone (FTZ) as a vehicle through which US and foreign firms may reduce tariff-related costs in order to increase operating cost efficiency and competitiveness. The FTZ structure is discussed in the first section of this paper and the second section contains a discussion on developing strategies for FTZ use. A summary concludes the paper. US and foreign firms may strengthen their competitiveness by using the FTZ to reduce tariff-related costs and increase operating cost efficiencies.
