Abstract:According to the Chinese Customs' statistics, China's accumulated adverse balance of trade with America had reached USD 3.026 billion from 1978 to 1995. The main reasons for the widening adverse balance are as follows: 1 The large amount of foreign investment introduced in China's main land since the mid-1980s had led to geographically transferring the unfavorable balance of foreign trade and the increase of the "resold products" of American-funded enterprises. 2 As American commodities lacked competitive superiority in its export to China the growth of its export to China could not catch up with the growth of China's import. To settle the problem properly, both sides should form a coordination organ for bilateral or multilateral trade statistics in order to study jointly the reasons for difference in statistics.
