Abstract:In this series of survey, part 1 provides a general introduction, information on the ownership of equipment, an overview of the hardware and software markets, and also details of the UK foreign trade and production. Part 2 will cover market sectors and its development. Part 3 deals with brands, manufacturers, advertising, distribution , promotion, prospects and prices. Audio equipment can be divided into four main sectors: portable products, personal stereo, "one brand" systems and separates. Within these categories, there is currently a range of products designed to satisfy the need for any combination of music or programme playing format (radio, vinyl records, CDs or cassettes).
