Abstract:In 1996, China's total import-export trade volume reached US$ 289.9 billion, up 3.2% over last year. Its foreign exchange reserve surpassed US$ 110 billion. According to the state's plan, China's import and export volume will reach over US$ 310 billion in 1997, up 7%-8% over 1996. The author points out that there are some problems in management which should be settled. They include macro control which should be conducted effectively with a clear aim, export tax refund and the level of export tax refund rate, policy on RMB exchange rate and optimising commodity composition. In addition, the status and function of foreign trade need to be re-recognised and circulation channels of foreign trade.
