Abstract:Developing Sino-American economic and trade relationship benefits both sides. In recent years, although friction between China and America has arisen continuously, the volume of trade between the two countries has grown year by year. According to statistics, the total volume of import and export in 1996 was us $ 42.84 billion. America has become China's second largest trade partner while China has jumped to ninth in the name list of America's foreign trade. Bill Clinton's being re-elected is favourable to keeping the continuation and stability of America's trade policy towards China. It is estimated that the level of Sino-American economic and trade co-operation will continue to be raised in the coming 4 years. But the divergence of views around some concrete issues and friction will still arise.
