Abstract:Household cleaning products are mainly used in kitchens and bathrooms. The domestic market was worth 166 mn pounds in 1996. It has been growing by an average 8.5% a year over the past 3-4 years. All-purpose cleaners are the largest sector, followed by bathroom cleaners. Use of household is almost universal. Consumers are looking to spend less time on cleaning and favour products that are easier to use. The market is dominated by the soap and detergent giants, and the major brands of these companies are marketed in a large number of variants. Advertising support for household cleaners is heavy in most years. The market is set to continue to grow by at least 3% a year in real terms to the end of the century.
