Abstract:This study examines whether inter-country differences in demand are important as a determinant of net trade. The question of why a country specialises in the production and export of certain goods and the import of other goods is one of the most important questions in international trade. One reason for this being that unless one can identify causes of international trade, the effects of various trade and industrial policies are virtually impossible to predict.
