Abstract:The study documents an overall positive impact of NAFTA on U.S. equity prices. It also documents that NAFTA has a differential impact on equity prices depending on the industry of the firm. The impact of NAFTA is significantly negative for firms in the petroleum products, auto products, and telecommunications industries, and is significantly positive for firms in the food products, textiles, chemicals, and machinery industries.
