Abstract: | According to customs statistics, the total volume of imports and exports of commodity amounted to US$ 325.06 billion in 1997, an increase of 12.1 per cent over last year. Among it, the volume of exports amounted to US$182.7 billion, an increase of 20.6 per cent, while the volume of imports was US$ 142.36 billion, an increase of 2.5 per cent. Foreign exchange reserves added up to approximately US$ 140 billion. The increasing amplitude of foreign trade in 1998 might fall. Main reasons are as following: the contradictions inhernet in the export of commodities are still in existence to varying degrees; the demand from the international market has dropped relatively; the financial crisis in peripheral countries exerts a negative impact; the reform of domestic enterprises is in a critical stage and the initiative of developing new markets is limited. |
