| Abstract: | Processing trade has increased rapidly in the past twenty years and its proportion in China's foreign trade has been on a rise continuously. The export and import of our processing trade have amounted to $99.6 billion and $70.21 billion respectively, which is 17.7 times of the $5.62 billion export and 10.5 times of $6.7 billion import in 1986, with an annual increase by 29.9 percent and 23.8 percent respectively. In 1986, the proportions of export and import in processing trade to China's gross export and import were merely 18.2 percent and 15.6 percent. However, those proportions have amounted to half of our foreign trade in 1997. |
