Abstract:In 1999, the global demand for grain will reach about 1.9 billion tons, a 1% increase. The ratio between global grain storage and consumption from 1998 to 1999 will incline to 17.2%. Although there is 0.4 percentage decrease than last year, grain storage still at the lowest safety level (17%-18%). Meanwhile, global grain trade is reduced. From 7,1998 to 6,1999 the amount of global grain trade will be 2,040,000 million tons, a decrease of 7 million tons than last year, amounting for 3.3%. In addition, the grain price in the world is slumping. It is estimated that the average export price of wheat of the world from July to December 1998, will be $122 per ton, a $27 decrease than the corresponding period in 1997, the decrease degree reaches 18%.
