| Abstract: | Recently there is a growing shortage in qualified manpower. Some of the relating labour market trends are described and examined. It is shown that there is a widening gap between the output of professional education and the input requirements of companies. The new problems of recruitment are characterized. Some guidelines are provided as an aid to organizing in-company training campaigns. Short term, middle term and long term effects of professional development of employees are identified. It is demonstrated that the extension of knowledge and skills of employees increases their career opportunities. A checklist is presented which can be used in the course of the formal planning of training and further development of personnel. |
