Abstract:This study focuses on corporate identity and strategy during a time of environmental transformation. The topic is studied through a theory-building case study. The study finds that strategy and identity were seen as dissonant by senior managers under the presence of a significant industry-wide common identity and linked perceived corporate strategy controversy. In relation the study finds that the response from managers to such dissonance was in means of self-legitimating, attributing and adjusting their views of the organization's identity and strategy.
