Abstract:A good deal of LDC's have introduced pre- shipment inspection (PSI) to reduce corruption. The activity of the PSI firms (SGS, Cotechna, Bureau Veritas and Intertek) is controversial. While these firms save some money for their principals, they make the foreign trade more difficult. Certain exporters do not want to cooperate with the PSI firms, and protest against their activities as a non-tariff barrier. The regulation of the PSI firms seems to be inevitable.
