Abstract:In the last years a massive disinvestment took place in the banking sector of South Africa by foreign investors. Although the net effect is not significant, bankers admit that the real problem is foreign banks, especially US and Japanese ones, do not make any new loan exposure there. And the lack of foreign capital severely restrains the economic growth. Meanwhile South African banks follow the international trend, deregulation.
